Narromine Shire Council held a luncheon on Friday 11 August 2017 for all staff to raise awareness of the importance of a mentally healthy workplace and
letting staff know about resources available for assistance, if necessary. An important part of the event is to assist in reducing the stigma that
unnecessarily surrounds mental health issues.
Council’s facilities were closed for two hours, between 12.00pm and 2.00pm to allow all staff to attend the function, held at the works depot. Staff members prepared food and paid a $15 fee for lunch, as well as buying raffle tickets for donated prizes. From the luncheon staff raised in excess of $2,500 which will be donated directly to beyondblue.
This year Council was lucky enough to have beyondblue Board Member and Ambassador Johanna Griggs attend as guest speaker. Johanna spoke to staff about her career, her reasons for getting involved in beyondblue and the importance of looking out for each other and maintaining a mentally healthy workplace.
Johanna said “As a beyondblue Board Member it was a real thrill to be able to take part in such a wonderful lunch and fundraising event. Born out of tragic circumstances several years ago, Narromine Shire Council has really impressed me with its desire to support its staff, in providing them with an environment that considers their mental health and wellbeing. It was really encouraging to see. A huge thanks to everyone for their donations.'
General Manager, Jane Redden, added her appreciation for the enthusiastic response from staff in once again supporting the initiative, and thanks to local businesses for their sponsorship, enabling Staff to make such a significant donation for beyondblue.
Council staff would like to acknowledge the following businesses who made generous donations to our raffle: Executive Collections, Outstanding Collections, Inland Petroleum, Walkers Service Centre, Macquarie Clothing, Bunnings Warehouse, Shorts Butchery, Coles Narromine, Courthouse Hotel, Narromine Fruit & Vegetables, Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Jan Smith, Narromine Pharmacy, Aimee Hilder LipSense, Local Government Superannuation, Soy Scents (Casey Forrester), Olli & I, Brenno’s Hotbake, Mirror Hair Lounge, Liquorland Narromine, Stockman Motor Inn and Andonbel Alpacas.
