National Apology Day 2017

National Apology Day 2017

Next Monday February 13, Narromine Shire Council will host an official flag raising ceremony for National Apology Day. This event marks the anniversary of the Apology to Australia’s Indigenous peoples in the House of Representatives on 13 February 2008 by former Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, apologising for past laws, policies and practices that have impacted on Australia’s First Nations Peoples, particularly members of the Stolen Generations.

The flag raising will take place at the front of the Narromine Shire Council Administration Building commencing at 10.00 am with morning tea served following the ceremony.

Mayor, Cr Craig Davies said, “Council extends an invitation to all members of the community to gather on February 13 to mark the Anniversary of the Apology. This is a significant day in our Nation’s history and holds deep meaning for Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples”.
