Council Staff step up to the Challenge

“Council Staff step up to the challenge”

“Narromine Shire Council are committed to a safe and healthy workplace and as part of this Council staff are currently undertaking a Health Challenge, said Council’s General Manager Jane Redden. “Research shows that good worker health and wellbeing boosts organisational health & business performance.”

In conjunction with Marathon Health, Narromine Shire Council’s health challenge consists of two components: a pedometer challenge which sees Team v Team to see which team is the most active. The second component is a weight loss challenge which sees indoor staff versus outdoor staff. The weight loss challenge is being undertaken with allied professional support through Marathon Health and involves education sessions on diet and exercise as well as personal goal setting with intermittent assessments.

“The challenge commenced on 06 July 2017 and is run over eight weeks. The response from the staff to the challenge has been fantastic with improved motivation within the
workplace. Not only is the health challenge important for physical health, it also plays an important role in mental health”, added Sally Everett, Chairperson Council’s Health
and Wellbeing Committee. If you see any Council staff pounding the pavement, please give them some encouragement to keep moving. If your organisation would like to undertake a similar health challenge, please contact Marathon health for assistance.
