Information Technology Trainee awarded for completion of Skillset Workforce course

Narromine Shire Council’s Information Technology Trainee, Robert Barling has graduated from the Skillset Workforce Trainee Program this week completing an Information, Digital Media and Technology Certificate III qualification over the past 12 months.

Robert was the first Information Technology Trainee hired through Skillset Workforce for Narromine Shire Council with another position to be filled this year. There is a bright future for Robert as he moves to Wollongong for full time study at the University of Wollongong.

Narromine Shire Council’s General Manager, Jane Redden said “it is such a great opportunity for young members of the community to gain further education in a secure full time position.”
“Everyone has enjoyed having Robert around and it has been great watching him grow and complete the course.”
“We are lucky to be able to offer the position within Council and look forward to filling the position again this year” she said.
The role of Information Technology Traineeship is a broad position which has seen Robert successfully introduce a new finance system, assist with Council’s help desk enquiries and undertake general system management at Council.
Skillset Workforce representative Rodney Ney said “The Information Technology Traineeship is one of many courses offered by Skillset Workforce”.
“It is great to be able to work directly with Regional Councils to provide training opportunities for young locals.”
“Robert has been a diligent student and we have enjoyed working with Narromine Shire Council over the past 12 months” he said.
