Investigations underway for an extensive fuel security facility in the Narromine Shire

Discussions are advancing with interested parties for the development of a large fuel storage facility in the Shire.

Investigations have found that the facility would store up to 1.5 billion litres of fuel and has the potential to be built by private equity firms.

Opportunities relating to the Inland Rail and the need for an increased strategic fuel reserve in Australia has led to the initial investigation from Council.

Narromine Shire Council’s Mayor, Cr Craig Davies outlined that “The Shire is centrally located in NSW making it the perfect location for a large fuel storage facility to supply farms, mining, transport and industry fuel across much of NSW”

“Our location lends itself to the rapid and efficient distribution of fuel across a vast area of the state due to both the Mitchell and Newell Highway’s, NSW Rail Network and upcoming Inland Rail”

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our Shire and the development would assist in increasing the available employment in the region as well as the potential to lower the cost of fuel storage” he said.

Initial conversations with all levels of Government and private investors have commenced.
