Narromine has recently continued its strong reputation for gliding, hosting a number of events over November and December.
Coach the Coaches, a national training week for Australian gliding coaches, was held between Sunday 11 November and Friday 16 November.
The following week, the Narromine Cup took place between Sunday 18 November and Saturday 24 November. The event was a great success and attended by approximately 30 gliders. Garry Stevenson from Victoria won the event.
The Australian Multiclass National Championships commenced on Thursday 22 November and will conclude this Friday 7 December. The event is the premier Australian National Championship gliding event. Over 50 pilots are competing, including entries from Finland, Holland and Serbia.
“Narromine is the premier cross country gliding location in Australia. These events, which are all hosted by Narromine Gliding Club, deliver a great economic boost to our region,” said Jane Redden, Narromine Shire Council’s General Manager.
“I would like to thank the Gliding Club for their continued efforts which cement Narromine’s strong national and international reputation in the sport of gliding,” said Mrs Redden.
“Each year, gliding attracts a large number of international pilots to our region.”
The gliding season continues over summer and right through until March, with a number of further events to look forward to over the season. The next major events are the NSW State Championships in January and the Australian National 20m Championships to be held in February.
