Shire’s Aquatic Centre unsupervised age limit increased

Narromine Shire Council, in alignment with Royal Life Saving Australia Keep Watch at Public Pools guidelines, has increased the age limit for entry to the pools without adult supervision from 10 years old to 12 years old.

It was recommended to Council for the age limit to be increased following changes to the Keep Watch at Public Pools guidelines due to an increase in drownings at public pools across Australia.

Narromine Shire Council’s General Manager, Jane Redden said “the updated guidelines have been implemented by Royal Life Saving Australia to improve safety for our children”

“All children under the age of 12 will require a parent or guardian over the age of 16 to supervise them whilst at the pool grounds”

“Parents are reminded that regardless of age, active supervision is recommended whilst at the aquatic centres”

Council will be implementing the age limit changes in Narromine and Trangie from 22 December 2018 in align with the Summer School holiday period.
