Narromine Historical Museum and Meeting Place has closed after 7 successful years

Opened in 2012, the Narromine Historical Museum, managed by the Ngarru Mayin Elders Aboriginal Corporation, showcased a range of Aboriginal arts and crafts and European historical items. The museum and meeting place frequently ran workshops for Aboriginal language and art and was a great place for visitors to meet locals.

Founder, volunteer and museum Manager Ruth Carney said “It is with great sadness and disappointment that we announce that Narromine Historical Museum and Meeting Place has closed”

“Support from Narromine Shire Council over the past 2 years has assisted in keeping the doors open, however due to a lack of volunteer availability we were unable to continue operations”

“We have donated the remaining funds raised to Narromine Fire Brigade, Narromine VRA and Narromine Cancer Support Group”

Narromine Shire Council’s General Manager Jane Redden said “we would like to thank the community of Narromine for supporting the Narromine Museum and Meeting Place and also would like to thank the Ngarru Mayin Elders Aboriginal Corporation for running such a great facility for visitors and locals to enjoy”

A number of items from the museum are being relocated to the Wungunja Cultural Centre, with other personal items being returned to their owners.
