Narromine Shire Council has formally entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Narromine Local Aboriginal Land Council and Trangie Local Aboriginal Land Council, marking an important step in strengthening relationships, collaboration, and mutual respect between the organisations.
The MOU establishes a shared framework for cooperation to promote reconciliation, preserve and celebrate Aboriginal culture and heritage, and create meaningful opportunities for Aboriginal participation in community development and decision-making processes.
Narromine Shire Council Mayor, Clr Ewen Jones, said the Narromine Shire Council, Narromine Local Aboriginal Land Council and Trangie Local Aboriginal Land Council share a commitment to upholding the intent of the MOU and working together in the pursuit of unity, respect and social justice across the Narromine region.
“Council looks forward to continuing to work closely with both Land Councils to help preserve and celebrate Aboriginal culture and heritage, support the implementation of the Aboriginal Employment Strategy, and enhance local art and cultural expression through streetscape initiatives,” said Clr Ewen Jones.
We are also committed to ensuring Aboriginal voices are represented in Council decision-making through invitations to participate on relevant committees and working group, he added.
The MOU reflects Council’s ongoing dedication to fostering strong partnerships with Aboriginal communities, ensuring that local cultural values and heritage continue to be recognised.
