Students from Narromine Public School Learn About Local Government During Council Visit

Narromine Shire Council was delighted to welcome Stage 3 (Years 5 and 6) students from Narromine Public School today.

The visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to learn about the important role local councils play in the community and within the three tiers of government.

General Manager Mrs Jane Redden said the Council visit was a fantastic way to engage young people in civic education.

“Council was pleased to host the students and help them discover how local government works, from providing essential services and infrastructure to supporting community development and planning for the future,” said Mrs Redden.

The students had the opportunity to meet Deputy Mayor Stacey Bohm, who spoke about the decision-making process, how council meetings are run, the responsibilities of elected councillors, and how Council is funded.

“Having the visit coincide with Local Government Week made it all the more meaningful,” said Mrs Redden. “It’s a great time to highlight the vital role councils play and inspire the next generation to take an interest in their community.”

The visit included a tour of the Council Chambers.

Narromine Shire Council thanks Narromine Public School for their interest and looks forward to continuing to support opportunities for youth engagement across the Shire.
